Physical and Mental Preparedness for Self-Defense: A Focus on Women's Health and Well-Being

Self-defense is a multi-faceted response to a threat. Protecting oneself does not only include learning and practicing the mechanics of fighting; overcoming an adversary takes both mental, emotional, and physical preparation.

Join us at the November Dinner as we welcome guest speaker Beata Staszewski PsyD LCPC CADC, Behavioral Health Specialist and Police Training Instructor for the Chicago Police Department. She is a 14-year veteran of the force, holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Masters in Police Psychology and is the 2nd Vice President for the Chicago Association for Women in Law Enforcement.

Dr. Staszewski will provide an overview of the biological responses to threats (flight, fight, freeze), how socio-emotional conditioning may predispose women to respond to threats in a passive manner, and how to optimize physiological and emotional responses when faced with an attacker.
