Marie Winters is giving a presentation for Washington University’s “Chicago Professionals Network” tomorrow, April 26. The title of her presentation is: “Giving to Succeed: Stepping Up Strategically for Growth.” Marie was also recently interviewed by Forté Foundation, a non-profit organization with 95,000 members working to launch women into fulfilling significant careers through access to business education, opportunities, and a community of successful women. Every month they feature a senior woman in their “Women of Leadership Profiles” series. A link will be shared once the interview has been published.

On April 6, CFE Immediate Past President, Martha McGuire, participated on a panel discussion, Defining (and Achieving!) Success for Women, for the ACG Chicago Women's Network.

Congratulations to Kristie Paskvan on being named the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center’s 2018 Luminary, for her contributions to Chicago's children and for lighting the path toward hope and healing.  ChicagoCAC is the city’s only not-for-profit that coordinates child protection staff, law enforcement professionals, medical experts, family advocates and mental health clinicians under one roof.  Kristie will be honored at the 4th Annual Luminary Award Dinner, on Thursday, May 3rd.  Click here to learn more

Joan Waggoner has been re-appointed to the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (FASAC) for 2017. FASAC comprises approximately 35 members who are drawn from the ranks of CEOs, CFOs, senior partners of public accounting firms, executive directors of professional organizations, and senior members of the academic and analyst communities, all with an interest in the integrity of full and complete financial reporting and disclosure.

Northwestern Pritzker School of Law announced that Sara Hays has been selected as chair of the Northwestern Law Board. She began her 2-year term at the start of the new fiscal year in September. Read the complete press release.

Anna Rappaport wrote two essays just published:
Women and Retirement Risk: What Should Plan Sponsors, Planners, Software Developers and Product Developers Know? and Thinking about the Future of Retirement. Anna also spoke on May 3 at the Plan Sponsor Council of America meeting on the employers role in retirement advice. More info here.

Meenal Sethna was promoted to Executive Vice President and CFO of Littelfuse Inc. in March, 2016. Littelfuse Inc. is a global leader in circuit protection, with an expanding presence in power control and sensing. In this role, she is responsible for the company’s finance and accounting, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, and internal audit activities.

On May 5 CFE Members JoAnn Lilek, Marie Graul and Sara Hays participated in a panel discussion, "How to Attain a Seat on a Corporate Board." The Chicago Chapter of the CFO Leadership Council hosted the panel discussion and CFE Member Joan Rockey was instrumental in coordinating the program.

Jan Promer joined Campbell & Company as their Director of Finance and Administration. Campbell is a national consulting firm, headquartered in Chicago, that specializes in supporting not for profits in their development activities.

Donna Moore has been named CFO for the nationally recognized LEARN Charter School Network. LEARN's mission is to provide children with the academic foundation and ambition to earn a college degree. The network currently includes nine elementary schools with an annual operating budget of over $46M. As CFO, Donna will manage Accounting, Finance, IT and Facilities. Previously, Donna was CFO for Chicago Public Media, Inc.

Laurel Bellows is thrilled again to be named Super Lawyer and Illinois Best Lawyer, 2016. She is currently serving on the Executive Committee of the InterAmerican Bar Association and is planning a trip to the Council meeting in El Salvador. Laurel is delighted that she was accepted into the Direct Women Corporate Board program as she seeks to sit on public corporate boards based on her executive compensation and cyber security expertise. As part of her busy new year season of executive transition, Laurel is fortunate to represent a number of Named Executive Officers and Senior Management to negotiate their new employment, retirement and separation agreements. Laurel wants to thank you for your confidence in referring friends and business associates during their difficult and/or joyful transitions.

Anna Rappaport authored an article published in The Conference Board Human Capital Exchange titled “New insights on the finances of Americans support need for financial wellness programs”.

This is a report about a project sponsored by the Society of Actuaries Committee on Post-Retirement Needs and Risks. The Society of Actuaries is partnering with the Social Security Administration to support research conduced by the Center for Economic and Social Research at the University of Southern California. The 2015 new study “How Americans Manage Their Finances” provides insights into financial management and at all ages. The study provides insights into use of financial products, debt, financial stresses, and planning for the future by age group.

Laurel Bellows is thrilled to announce her election to the Executive Committee of the Council of the Inter-American Bar Association, the organized bar coalition of the Presidents of all the countries of the Americas, France and Spain. Not only will Laurel be working alongside Latin American leaders to address issues of consequence among Latin American countries and global corporations, but she is perfecting her Spanish idioms and mastering “What's App” in Spanish at breakfinger speed since her Latin peers love to chat. Sara Hays recently joined Allegis Partners and Major, Lindsey & Africa to launch a board search practice among the other executive search services offered by the companies which are part of Allegis Group, the largest private staffing and recruitment company in the United States with over 350 offices world-wide. Pavilion Advisory Group’s CIO, Susan McDermott and several of the firm’s investment consultants have published a book - the “Fiduciary Primer”. This is a best practice manual based on the firm’s experience over several decades and participating in over 1,000 Investment Committee meetings. The book is designed to assist those responsible for governing asset pools, such as defined benefit and defined contribution plan, endowments, foundations and healthcare systems. Each of the eight chapters covers the “need-to-know” particulars and best practices on one aspect of managing an investment pool. References at the end of chapters provide interested readers with direction on how to delve further into the subject matter. Finally, the appendix contains definitions of the most commonly used investment terms. The Fiduciary Primer is available for download to an e-reader from Amazon. Christine Edwards was selected by the National Law Journal as one of a distinct, national group of distinguished leaders in government, business and law firms, recognized as trailblazers in regulatory and compliance. In the article, Chris comments on her Washington D.C. government relations experience, her effort in supporting women in the corporate setting, and the evolving role of the chief compliance officer.

Congratulations to Linda Havard who was named Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Congratulations Kelly Grier for being named new Midwestern Managing Partner at Ernst & Young. Formerly a Managing Partner, Kelly will now head the accounting firm's central region, the first time a woman has been appointed to that position.

She takes over from Rick Fezell as vice chair and central region managing partner. Based in Chicago, she will oversee more than 8,000 auditors, consultants and tax professionals spread across 15 states, with nearly 2,700 of them here. Julie Scott elected as Board President - University of Illinois College of Business Alumni Association.

Julie Scott, President of CTS Holdings, Inc., a hands-on Finance & IT business advisory and project management firm, has been elected as the Board President of the University of Illinois College of Business Alumni Association Board (CBAA) which represents approximately 60,000 University of Illinois College of Business alums worldwide. Julie remains very active with her Urbana-Champaign campus alma mater, and is also currently serving on the Selection Committee to identify the new Dean for the College of Business at Urbana-Champaign. Along with her husband, Julie established and maintains a scholarship program for U of I Business at Urbana-Champaign students interested in Entrepreneurship.

In addition to her this role, Julie also serves on the Board for the University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA), representing all three U of I campuses, with over 700,000 alumni worldwide. (Posted June 24, 2015)

Leslie M. Savickas joins the Logan Foundation's board and brings to it the benefit of her long experience in a variety of financial roles in both the public and private sectors. A Chicago native, she has served as a corporate treasurer, commercial lender, and financial controller and has managed accounting, corporate finance, financial marketing, and investment functions.

She has also served on charitable and civic boards and commissions. Her undergraduate degree in French was earned at DePaul University; her M.B.A., at Loyola University in Chicago; and a C.P.A. credential, from the State of Illinois. Dorri McWhorter is quoted in the Chicago Tribune as Uber partners with the YWCA in its "Drive to Thrive" program. This new initiative aims to create one million jobs for women by the year 2020, including 5,000 in the Chicago area. YWCA CEO Dorri McWhorter said the technology and ride-hailing company would support her 139-year-old organization’s economic-empowerment initiatives as part of the arrangement. “We are really focusing on how do we continue to bring our services and address the needs of the women that we serve in a very 21st century, modern way,” McWhorter said. She said YWCA will use direct marketing and a new seminar series called YShare, focused on the sharing economy, to alert constituents to job opportunities with Uber. Read the full article here. Sara Hays recently joined fellow CFE member Chris Edwards and several other public company directors to discuss “Perspectives of Directors: Corporate Counsel Challenges in Today’s Environment” at a Project 5/165 regional workshop designed to support and accelerate the development of women in-house lawyers. The name 5/165 derives from the goal – a target – to have 165 (30%) women as General Counsel in Fortune 500 companies within 5 years.

Sara Hays also recently addressed a group of compliance professionals at the ACC Advanced Compliance Education Summit in New Orleans on the topic of “Words of Wisdom from Audit Committee Members.” (Posted May 21, 2015)

Congratulations to Michelle Applebaum who has been elected to the Board of Trustees, where she will be a member of the Post-Graduate Outcomes Committee. She will serve a four-year term. From September 2010 through June 2014, Applebaum taught finance at Lake Forest College, served as an advisor to the school’s new investment club, and helped students connect and prepare for internships and jobs. “Michelle knows our community very well and has a wide network of contacts in industry, business and finance. Additional congratulations to Dorri McWhorter for being honored by three additional organizations. On March 26, Dorri received the Phenomenal Woman Award at the Black Women's Expo 2015. The Phenomenal Woman Award pays tribute to African American women that have distinguished themselves throughout the city of Chicago and beyond. On April 1 she received the Chicago Defender Women of Excellence award which celebrates local African American women who inspire others through their vision, leadership, exceptional achievements and participation in community service. And lastly, on June 21, Dorri will receive the N'DIGO Foundation 2015 Community Award. The N'Community Award is the foundation's most prestigious award given to someone that exemplifies accomplishment and achievement in the community. Congratulations Dorri! (March 2015)

Lee Ann Hoover was pleased to be a panelist at the upcoming University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana College of Business Roundtable on April 8 entitled “Pioneers, Groundbreakers, Innovators: A Roundtable for Women in Business”. The panel talked about continuing the legacy to of leadership and shaping the future of business. Whether it's shattering the glass ceiling, shaking up the entrepreneurial frontier, or generously giving time and leaderhsip back to the College, alumnae have made a significant impact on the College - and on business as a whole. Kristie Paskvan is serving as Chairperson of Chicago Says No More, a non-profit that will be launched in April that will bring various organizations together to help support victims of domestic violence. The idea to form the Chicago group was inspired by the national No More Campaign. Chicago Says No More will launch officially in April with a reception being held at CBS 2 Chicago, the lead media partner for the organizaiton. To learn more and get involved, read the press release. The Northwestern University Black Alumni Association recently selected Gail Hasbrouck for a Salute to Excellence Award. The Excellence Award recognizes alumni that have attained a high level of professional success while exhibiting a commitment to community. "It was my pleasure this past weekend to be honored by Northwestern University Black Alumni Association, with the Salute to Excellence Award, at its Summit and Salute to Excellence Gala in Ft.
