A Message from the President...

CFE's Brand: Recognizing Successful and Significant Women Leaders

In earlier newsletters, I’ve shared our strategic plan objectives related to CFE as a Resource and CFE as a Community, including the creation of our new Member Engagement committee: Our strategic plan also envisions CFE’s brand being synonymous with successful and significant women financial leaders and well-recognized in the Chicago business community. So, the recent recognition of CFE by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of the 8 most exclusive clubs in Chicago is well-timed and well-deserved. Indeed, with the able assistance of our Branding & Communications Committee, we’re in the process of leveraging that publicity to gain increasing external visibility of our organization and our impressive members.

As many of us approach other women in our professional networks to interest them in attending dinners and potential CFE membership, we’re tasked with acquainting them with the Chicago Finance Exchange in the first instance. Yet, we aspire to be an organization that not only is widely recognized for our distinguished members and thought leadership, but is the professional networking organization that women financial leaders wish to join given the many choices they have and demands on their time. Increased strategic partnerships with other complementary organizations, including the media and corporate sponsorships, greater involvement in community events by our members are among the avenues that we are exploring to achieve this goal over time.

· Ensure your voice is heard as we continue our dialogue and planning around CFE’s external brand.

· What does exclusivity mean to you?

· How can CFE's recognized exclusivity help CFE further differentiate itself from other organizations?

· How could CFE's recognized exclusivity negatively impact its image?

· If CFE were to hold an annual marquee event, what type of event feels right for the CFE brand? Conversely, what feels wrong?

Please share your thoughts on these topics with me, Kim Adriano (our Branding & Communications Committee Chair), or any of our board members. We value your feedback and are committed to providing value to all members of the CFE community through our programming and through our increased visibility in the Chicago business community. Thanks for your support and many contributions to the CFE community.

Sara Hays
2015 President

Michelle Moreno recently returned from a vacation to Greece – a location she highly recommends for great food, sun, white-washed buildings with sparkling blue roofs, and phenomenal history! On the work front, M&A and capital raising continues strong. We are actively in the market with companies in data management services, call center services, and communications services as well as healthcare, biotech, materials, industrials, and technology. As the Fed is forestalled from tightening, we anticipated high activity to continue through the first quarter of 2016.

Geri Sands Hansen, former Chief Investment Officer of Attucks Asset Management, will be awarded the Women Investment Professionals 2015 Trailblazer Award on October 22. The award honors an inspirational woman who has achieved professional and personal excellence. Geri co-founded Attucks in 2001 and was a driving force in its growth to $2.5 billion in assets under management, helping dozens of emerging minority and woman-owned investment management firms grow in a fund-of-funds environment.

Congratulations to Claire A. Koeneman on being appointed to the Board of Trustees of Lexington Realty Trust (“Lexington”) (NYSE:LXP), a real estate investment trust focused on single-tenant real estate investments.
