Markets surged to record highs in Q2—even as war broke out in the Middle East, consumer confidence dropped, and political uncertainty loomed in Washington.

What does it all mean? Join us for a virtual lunch and learn where Brownson, Rehmus & Foxworth Chief Investment Officer Keith Cardoza will break down the disconnect between headlines and market performance, examine the key forces shaping today’s economy, and share what to watch as we head into a volatile second half of the year.

CFE members joined Brownson, Rehmus & Foxworth CIO Keith Cardoza for a timely discussion on markets and the economy. Keith explored the disconnect between headlines and market performance, the Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook, and the often-overlooked role of its balance sheet—including strategies like “Operation Twist.” He also highlighted how markets have historically navigated periods of volatility, from the COVID-19 shutdown to the 2022 bear market and the April Liberation Day dip, demonstrating that despite uncertainty, markets tend to recover rationally over time.

Keith Cardoza Bio:

Keith’s fascination with the miracle of compound interest began at a young age. Using earnings from his first summer job, he subscribed to The Wall Street Journal and made his first mutual fund investment. This early enthusiasm drove him to earn a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago. He further distinguished himself by obtaining the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and later served as Chair of CFA Society Chicago.

Keith’s professional journey began at the Illinois State Board of Investment, where he managed its $6 billion equity portfolio. He then moved to Boeing, where he chaired its Investment Strategy and Asset Allocation Committee, overseeing $41 billion in assets.

In 2008, Keith joined BRF as its Chief Investment Officer, with a focus on using his institutional investment expertise to grow wealth for high-net-worth families. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the firm’s asset allocation and manager selection strategy.

Keith’s commitment to service extends beyond his professional endeavors. He is President and CEO of the Malta Human Services Foundation, a national nonprofit dedicated to assisting the sick and the poor. He also serves on the Smithsonian Institution’s Capital Campaign Leadership Committee and has previously served on the executive committees of the Economic Club of Chicago and Steppenwolf Theatre, as well as the board of the Joffrey Ballet. His involvement in the Commercial Club of Chicago underscores his enduring commitment to community engagement.

An avid traveler, Keith’s adventures have taken him to more than 60 countries, enriching his global outlook and further informing his investment perspective.
