A Message from the President...

"My CFE...Adding Member Value"

Donna MooreThroughout the year, we have worked together to continue to build and support the community that is the Chicago Finance Exchange, with the theme of “My CFE…Adding Member Value”. Whether you hosted events, joined a committee, sponsored a new member or served as a resource to other members, you brought value to CFE and in doing so helped to strengthen the organization. It has been rewarding to serve as your President in 2014. I thank each of you, the board of directors, officers and the CFE administrative team for your support and great counsel.

A lot was accomplished this past year…

• CFE offered over 30 educational and networking events including book clubs, educational workshops, philanthropic volunteer opportunities as well as our regular dinner programs.

• CFE, led by our task force, selected the YWCA Chicago as the recipient of the Cynthia Lafuente bequest. The funds are being used to expand the YWCA’s Logan Square Facility and will be named the Cynthia B. LaFuente Center. CFE will notify you of the grand opening date as well as information on how members can get engaged with this new Center.

• CFE participated in the inaugural “SuperConnect” event, a multi-association networking reception which connected CFE members to other leading Chicago finance professionals.

• We made improvements to our website and newsletter. We continued to strengthen our connection with colleagues and highlighted relevant events in our industry via the “Chicago Connections” page on our website.

We also introduced a new mission statement for CFE. The process of creating the Mission Statement involved many hours of strategic discussions with Board Members, past and present, as well as external parties.

“Chicago Finance Exchange is a community of women leaders in finance dedicated to helping members achieve success and significance in their careers, organizations, and the global marketplace.”

Our new President Sara Hays is off to a great start leading the 35th Anniversary year. Again thanks for a wonderful year and I look forward to seeing you at future CFE events.

Donna Moore
2014 President

From Your 2015 President: Sara Hays

Sara HaysI’ve had the pleasure of serving on CFE’s Board and co-chairing our Board Access Initiative for the past 4 years and appreciate the confidence placed in me to lead this organization during a particularly exciting and energizing time. CFE celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and, as a result, we have a number of plans already in place or in the works to signify this milestone, allowing us to build upon the strong CFE legacy created by our founders and earlier leadership, but moving forward with a refreshed Mission Statement and strategic plan

The theme unifying all our activities this coming year is:

CFE at 35: Celebrating Women, Success and Significance

This anniversary year theme emphasizes 3 of the prominent words in our Mission Statement.

: We are proudly and unapologetically a community of powerful women with financial expertise who wish to learn from and help each other in both our professional and personal lives.

Success: Membership in CFE signifies the achievement of success in our professional lives, enriching the networking opportunities available to each of us through membership. Thanks to all of you who make it a habit to introduce other successful women to CFE and sponsor them as members. As we further differentiate ourselves among other women’s networking groups in the marketplace, I’m confident we’ll continue to attract members that enhance our stature as an organization and the networking opportunities membership in CFE affords to us all.

Significance: CFE offers value to its members through our programs – dinners and lunches, both educational and social, our services (such as job and board opportunity postings) and the strong friendships we form with each other. More than that, though, CFE is the preeminent organization for accomplished women in finance that can and should have a presence and voice on issues affecting all of us, such as the advancement of women in executive positions and in the boardroom, locally and beyond. And, notwithstanding the numerous organizations competing for our time and attention, CFE should be the networking organization of choice for women finance executives. As we plan our goals and objectives for the next 5 years and measure our progress against those goals, I look forward to hearing CFE leadership and members quoted in the local and national press on topics relevant to our membership and our expertise.

Unifying all these components is the act of Celebration. While we have lofty goals for the future, we have much to celebrate as we launch our 35th year. We thank and honor our founders and CFE leadership over the past 35 years and the many accomplishments achieved during their period of stewardship. And, with our current membership, we look forward to a year of celebration.

Sara Hays
2015 President

Make It Your 2015 Resolution to Sponsor a Candidate for CFE!

The new year is a good time to think about bringing new, qualified members into CFE. In addition to the Board's recently launched program to proactively identify and recruit executive level women in finance, the organization relies on its membership to nominate candidates. We heard your feedback, and have streamlined the process and guidelines for nominating candidates over the past several years, making it simpler than ever to do so.

You can find membership guidelines, the nomination procedures and any necessary forms on the CFE website at "Nominate a New Member" under the Membership pull-down menu, or by clicking here.
