Giving Back Exchange Activities

CFE Members Giving Back at Bright Endeavors

The Giving Back Exchange had its’ 2016 fourth quarter volunteer event at Bright Endeavors on October 20. Those who attended received an up close look at how the program works, and an opportunity to learn more about the lives of the Bright Endeavors young Moms. The Bright Production Assistants, as the young Moms are called, taught volunteers how to make candles and then worked together making candles to fulfill their holiday season orders.

CFE Holiday Toy Drive

Thanks to members who donated to support CFE's holiday drive.  The Giving Back Exchange hosted the toy drive at the November Dinner Program. Toys collected were donated to the holiday store hosted by New Moms where moms in their program can pick out gifts for their children. New Moms serves young moms, aged 13-24, and their children who are experiencing poverty and homelessness, educating them on the proper care of their children and moving them towards economic independence and family stability through their programs.

Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is soliciting member names for a board position that will open up in January, 2017. Please forward suggestions to President-Elect Martha McGuire by November 30th.

A Message from the President...

Reflecting on a Successful Year
                  Continuing Our Path Forward

Sara HaysAs 2016 comes to a close I wanted to reflect upon and highlight some of what CFE accomplished this year.

We welcomed 11 new members to our CFE ranks, counting among them CFOs, General Counsels and Executive Vice Presidents.

70% of our members attended at least one of our 4 dinner programs, our winter social and summer socials, our Michiana and holiday brunches, our book clubs or one of the other 26 programs we either planned or sponsored in 2016.

We partnered with several organizations on events of interest to our members, such as the upcoming Gender Equality in the C-suite and Boardroom program.  These partnerships provide an additional avenue for member networking and branding of CFE.

Fulfilling the vision of our strategic plan, we reorganized our activities and events to focus on five topical areas of interest to our members that allow us to exchange our ideas, experiences, and expertise, namely:

• Finance and Investments
• Current Events and Business Trends
• Leadership and Professional Development
• Transitions
• Giving Back

Not only have the Exchanges provided opportunities for leadership and participation among a larger number of CFE members, they’ve re-energized our conversations around the exchange of ideas.  As we ask all of you to renew your membership for the coming year, if you have yet to do so, we’ll be asking you to identify those areas in which you are most interested and want to be engaged.

We’ve worked hard on our branding and public relations, having unveiled a new CFE logo, launched a new LinkedIn group page and a subject matter expert program that has resulted in CFE members being quoted in several articles. You can find out more information on each of these programs on our website which is in the process of being updated to include content from the Exchanges and to reflect our new look and feel.  Speaking of website, our visitor traffic has exponentially increased since 2015 when we were named one of Chicago’s most exclusive organizations by Crain’s, and visitors are spending more time on our website when they visit. As an example of the importance of our enhanced internet presence, CFE Treasurer Laura Pearl was invited to moderate a panel discussion among Chicago area CFOs following an internet search that highlighted our group. Our website in clearly important!

I’m thrilled with everything we’ve accomplished this year and since I assumed the Presidency in 2015, and look forward to continuing our vision and planning in the coming year. We trust you are similarly excited and encourage the renewal of your membership for 2017.

Thank you for your membership and continued support of CFE.

2016 President

2. New externally focused CFE Group LinkedIn Page

This page will further develop CFE’s “idea exchange” branding via highlighting material that emphasizes CFE and its members as thought leaders. The posted material will include topics that are relevant to financial leaders and will be sourced from both CFE members and other non-CFE related outlets. The group page will be managed and maintained by Dyana Flanigan, CFE’s PR consultant, with assistance from CFE members. Fifth Annual CFE Business Attire Clothing Drive
In conjunction with our September dinner meeting, the CFE Giving Back Exchange held its Fifth Annual Clothing Drive to benefit The Cara Program (TCP). Lisa Peters, Office Manager for TCP, partnered with us again this year in collecting items. TCP supports women and men who are preparing and training to enter the workforce and build a life of self sustainment. We filled an SUV through the thoughtfulness and generosity of eleven donors providing business attire and accessories that will assist participants as they train for job opportunities to enable their economic independence.  Donor Lynne Pantalena was the lucky winner of the book raffle.
Thank you to all the donors!
