Board Access Committee News

Interested in a board position? Have you taken the next step and submitted your board bio to the CFE office? Not sure how to put together your board bio? Click here to go to the CFE website for suggestions and resources.

The BAC is always looking for new opportunities for CFE members who have an interest in this area. If you are invited to be on a board and want assistance preparing yourself for the opportunity please reach out to the committee. We will do everything we can to help you prepare. Additionally, if you are invited to serve on a board but have to pass on the opportunity please be a “CFE Ambassador” and tell them to reach out to CFE or, better yet, pass the “lead” on to one of the BAC chairs and we will follow up on the opportunity.

A Message from the President...

CFE in 2016: Celebrating our Past; Creating our Future

As we conclude the year-long celebration of our 35th Anniversary and the community that is the Chicago Finance Exchange, it’s fitting to look back at our many accomplishments in 2015, all connected by our refreshed Mission Statement and the theme of celebrating “Women, Success and Significance.”

• CFE’s Board adopted a 5 year strategic plan to help guide and measure the success of our initiatives and activities, organized around 3 areas of critical importance to CFE members: our brand, our resources and our community.

• Our Programs Committee planned 4 dinner meetings featuring some of the most powerful and successful women in Chicago attended by 64% of our members.

• Over 57% of our members attended 30 educational, networking, philanthropic and social events, including a special Summer Social where we were joined by 13 CFE Past Presidents,

• We created a Member Engagement Committee to help us learn more about our members and better plan events of interest to all of you. Our efforts included a member survey and the start of a member knowledge effort to better track member activity and interests.

• Fulfilling the generous bequest of CFE member Cynthia LaFuente, we made charitable contributions to both the Metropolitan Chicago YWCA and Bright Endeavors/New Moms, enabling them to continue programming for women needing a helping hand.

• Fifteen new members joined the CFE community, largely the result of efforts put in place by our Membership Committee to identify and recruit member candidates that complement and solidify our membership ranks.

• We partnered with other organizations on events of interest to our members, such as the SuperConnect networking event, and to bring recognition to our members. For example, we supported the nomination of 5 of our members for FEI’s CFO of the Year.

• To cap off all these activities, at year-end, we were named by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of the 8 most exclusive clubs in Chicago.

Whether you attended dinner meetings, hosted events, sponsored a new member or served as a resource to other members and to the broader community, know that you brought value to CFE and in doing so strengthened the organization and I thank each and every one of you. It has been an honor to serve as your President in 2015 and I look forward to continuing to do so during the coming year. Many thanks to the other CFE officers, board of directors and the CFE administrative team for their support and commitment.

Looking forward, know that we have great plans to continue the momentum of this past year and will be convening a strategic planning retreat for the full board next month. I’ll be speaking more over the coming months of our specific plans but our efforts and activities will be focused on the third word of our organization – “Exchange.” The word “exchange” suggests an interaction and sharing of ideas which is one of the reasons we are part of the CFE community and gather here tonight. What are the experiences and ideas that you bring to our community and what ideas and experiences keep you engaged and interested? We trust our upcoming programs will continue to engage us and provoke further exchange among us all on many fronts, be it current events, personal or professional development, corporate boards, career and life transitions.

Thank you for your membership and continued support of CFE.
